In memory of the maestro...
Today, the Orenburg Administration hosted a charity concert dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous cellist, pianist and conductor, People's Artist of the USSR Mstislav Rostropovich. In the hall sounded the best works of classical choral music performed by the municipal chamber choir under the direction of the Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation Olga Serebriyskaya, who gained his fame largely thanks to Rostropovich. It was with his participation that the choir from a provincial town performed on the stage of the Moscow State Conservatory, and then at the largest music festival dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi in Spain. - I am so glad that you came to our concert today, - the conductor and artistic director of the chamber choir Olga Serebriyskaya greeted the guests. - It is dedicated to a great man, whose fate is closely connected with the fate of our team, a man for whom "between life and death there is nothing but music." The concert began with a piece heard by Rostropovich in this hall performed by the chamber choir during a visit to Orenburg in 1995. It was Rachmaninov's Theotokos.
