Beginning in 2011, Russia celebrates on February 15 the Day of Remembrance of the Russians who performed official duties outside the Fatherland.
February 15, 1989 completed the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. A new commemorative date for the holiday is set to recall this event, as well as in memory of more than 14 thousand Soviet soldiers and officers who did not return from the Afghan war.
